OK, so we are ready for the off. Almost utterly exhausted after two weeks of administrivia and logistics and watching the perfect winds that we had expected after all the historical research we had done.
At this time of year, there is generally a northern flow which would blow us down from the top of the eastern coast to the bottom…
This morning before the teams assembled, I was just checking one of our partners websites, www.predictwind.com.It is an amazing site and an invaluable tool for us. It is a site that is used by many of the worlds top wind surfers, kite boarders, surfers and sailors to predict surface flow.
All of our planning has been based on historical modeling in context with some local input as we have chatted to some really amazing paramotor pilots around the country. Of course, whenever you step out to attempt something like this, some people will get right behind you and encourage you and other people like to tell you the myriad number of reasons you will fail!
So back to the picture… check it out. It is for later this week, the point where we will be flying, and shows very clearly that the flow has moved to southerly, exactly 180 degrees in the wrong direction! This could be due to a large depression off the east coast that could of course move off, we don’t know for sure what we will find, but coupled with the emergency flooding crisis in the southern part of the state and road closures, it looks like the start is going to be a good challenge!
I guess the worst days paramotoring is better than the best day in the office though:)
